Franeker events

Events are regularly held in Franekeradeel. National and local traditions, one-off and annually recurring (sporting) events. If you would like to see more events, please check out the events calendar at www.franeker.frl.

PC Franeker

Every year on the 5th Wednesday after the 1st of July, the hugely important Frisian Handball game in Franeker is held at the illustrious Sternse Slotland (or Sjûkelân as it is commonly known), historical grounds where the Sjaerdema castle once stood.  Out of all the more than 600 handball games that are played under the auspices of the Royal Dutch Handball Association – Koninklijke Nederlandse Kaatsbond (KNKB) –, it is the PC that everyone wants to win. For a handball player, it does not come any bigger than winning the PC. The best player from the winning team is crowned king of the PC and since 1883, the chairperson of the PC hangs the prestigious medal, the old king’s ball, around his neck. For more information, please go to PC Franeker.

Agricultural Days

Every third Thursday of September is the start of the Agrarian Days. Five days of fun for young and old, for everyone in Franeker and beyond.

Hjoed yn it Park

In 2018, Hjoed yn it Park was organized for the first time. A small festival in the beautiful town park of Franeker, hosting live performances from a range of musicians, delicious food and in an ambient setting.
