Wadden Islands Terschelling or Vlieland

A trip to one of these Wadden Islands makes for a great day out to blow away the cobwebs and very easy to get to from Franeker! Vlieland is easy to explore on foot, but Terschelling is somewhat bigger so it’s easier to do by bike, which you can hire on the spot. There are several bicycle rental shops right at the quay. They have electric bicycles (or e-bikes) too, and you can even book them in advance. You can easily Google the options.

Travel advice

We recommend you to travel to Harlingen by public transport (because of the difficulty with parking in Harlingen) or by bicycle. The journey is around 8 km. You can take your bicycle with you on the boat (not available on all services).

Train or bus to Harlingen

Harlingen can be reached by train or by bus. Whichever you choose, you can check times and services on www.arriva.nl for both buses and trains. From Harlingen you can travel to the ferry terminal. The times of the bus and train services are in line with the ferry departure times. You can buy a single bus ticket in the bus.
